Expos Fall Victim To Nomads Rally
Expos could not hold onto the lead against Nomads on Sunday and fell 12-7 despite leading by five at one point.
Expos got on the board in the top of the first inning after Anthony Henderson grounded out, scoring one run, Ricky Gibson Jr drew a walk, scoring one run, and Jonathan De La Cruz tripled, scoring two runs.
Expos added one run in the second. Dan Cooper walked, making the score 5-0.
Nomads flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on five hits to take the lead, 6-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Austin Lehman that drove in two.
Jonathan De La Cruz singled down the left field line, which helped Expos tie the game at six in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the third, Nomads broke up the tie when Colin McIntyre hit a solo inside the park home run. Then a single by Derek Prinzing followed to extend the lead to 8-6.
Kyle Collins earned the win for Nomads. The righty allowed four hits and six runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking 11. Christian Price pitched five innings in relief for Expos. The hurler surrendered six hits and four runs while, striking out 10 and walking none. Jorge Arita took the loss for Expos. The right-handed pitcher went three innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking one. Paul Stelling earned the save.
Jonathan De La Cruz, the number seven hitter for Expos, led the way with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Jonathan De La Cruz and Anthony Henderson each collected two hits for Expos. Dan Cooper led Expos with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 12 walks for the game. Devon Crosby stole two bases. Expos ran wild on the base paths, collecting five stolen bases for the game.
Nomads amassed 13 hits in the game. Paul Stelling provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Nomads with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Corey Haberkorn led Nomads with three hits in four at bats. Austin Lehman collected two hits for Nomads in three at bats. Nomads didn’t commit a single error in the field. Mason Lehman had the most chances in the field with 12.
