Kent Walters’s Big Day Propels Banditos Past Wolfpack
Kent Walters drove in four runs on two hits to lead Banditos past Wolfpack 9-2 on Sunday. Walters doubled in the second scoring two, walked in the first scoring one, and singled in the fourth scoring one.
Banditos won thanks in part to five runs in the first inning. Phil Chapin singled, scoring one run, Walters drew a walk, scoring one run, Kirk Downs singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.
Wolfpack were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.
A single by Chapin, and a double by Walters helped Banditos extend their early lead in the second.
Dave Chapman earned the win for Banditos. The reliever surrendered three hits and one run over four innings, striking out two and walking none. Drew Lumpe took the loss for Wolfpack. The right-handed pitcher went six innings, surrendering nine runs (four earned) on 12 hits, striking out two and walking two. Scott Johnson started on the mound for Banditos. The right-handed pitcher allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out one and walking none.
Banditos accumulated 12 hits in the game. Thom Blake, Downs, Walters, Johnson, and Chapin each collected two hits for Banditos. Johnson stole two bases. Banditos ran wild on the base paths, piling up four stolen bases for the game. Banditos turned two double plays in the game.
Jason Farver led Wolfpack with two hits in two at bats from the leadoff position. Tim Moseley led the team with one run batted in. Chris Lancaster stole two bases.
