Lee With 3 Hits As Trojans Beat Zephyrs

James Lee collected three hits in three at bats, as Trojans defeated Zephyrs 9-7 on Sunday at Sturgeon Field (#6). James Lee singled in the first inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

Trojans jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after James Lee singled, scoring three runs, and Oliver Gonzalez grounded out, scoring one run.

Zephyrs tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a ground out by Paul Hammerling, an error, and a single by James Sabin.

Zephyrs took the lead in the bottom of the third. An error scored one run, to give Zephyrs the upper hand, 5-4.

Trojans tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by James Lee, and a fielder’s choice by Scott Taylor.

A single by Mike McWilson gave Zephyrs the lead, 7-6, in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the seventh inning, Trojans went back into the lead after Oliver Gonzalez doubled down the right field line, Pete Morin singled to center field, and Jason Johnson grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.

Chris Lancaster earned the win for Trojans. The reliever surrendered seven hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking one. David Shelton took the loss for Zephyrs. The reliever went four innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on eight hits, striking out four and walking none. Oliver Gonzalez opened the game for Trojans. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and four runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking six. Jeremy Callahan stepped on the hill first for Zephyrs. The starter gave up one hit and four runs over one inning, striking out one and walking three. James Lee appeared in relief for Trojans.

Trojans collected nine hits in the game. Oliver Gonzalez collected two hits for Trojans in four at bats. Trojans had patience at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Drew Lumpe and Todd Calkins led the team with two free passes each. James Lee stole three bases. Trojans ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game.

Zephyrs amassed 10 hits in the game. James Sabin, Mike Fluegge, and Jim Dulleck each collected two hits for Zephyrs. Paul Hammerling, Bryn Dytri, James Sabin, Mike McWilson, and Joe Jamison each drove in one run for Zephyrs. Joe Jamison paced Zephyrs with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating 11 walks for the game.

Next up for Trojans is a game at Banditos on Sunday.
