Fifth-Inning Burst Enough To Lead Wildthings Past Mustangs 2026

Wildthings defeated Mustangs 2026 15-6 on Sunday at CHC Field (#4) thanks in part to 12 runs in the fifth inning.

Mustangs 2026 got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Rene Torres singled to center field, and David Burciago grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.

Wildthings captured the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fourth after Jim Acy flew out, Glenn Klare singled to center field, and Jeff Reynolds singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Mustangs 2026 made the score 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth after Mike Carns singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.

Wildthings flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring 12 runs on eight hits to take the lead, 15-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Jermaine Harris following a 6-pitch at-bat that drove in three.

Rene Torres started the game for Mustangs 2026. The starter gave up 15 hits and 11 runs over four and one-third innings, striking out one and walking three. Jeff Reynolds started the game for Wildthings. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and six runs (five earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

Joe Taylor went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Mustangs 2026 in hits. Steve Jones, Mike Carns, David Burciago, and Rene Torres each drove in one run for Mustangs 2026. Mustangs 2026 turned one double play in the game. Mustangs 2026 were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Rene Torres had the most chances in the field with one.

Wildthings collected 21 hits in the game. Rob Gonzalez went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Wildthings in hits. Jeff Reynolds and Jermaine Harris each drove in two runs for Wildthings. Ryan Carrigan, Milton Austin, Mike Ortiz, and Glenn Klare each collected multiple hits for Wildthings. Wildthings had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Wildthings ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases for the game.

Next up for Mustangs 2026 is a game at Redbirds on Sunday.
