Kailer Smith’s Clutch Hitting Propels Vipers To Victory Over Shaftits

Kailer Smith drove in four runs on two hits to lead Vipers past Shaftits 17-0 on Friday at Fountain-Fort Carson Red Field. Smith doubled in the third inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the first inning, scoring one.
Vipers scored 11 runs in the third inning on the way to victory. Jared Booth singled, scoring one run, Smith doubled, scoring three runs, Evan Ford singled, scoring one run, Nic Bruntz singled, scoring one run, Tyler Matheny singled, scoring one run, Nate Bruntz drew a walk, scoring one run, a passed ball scored one run, Shai James hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Joey O’Dell singled, scoring one run.
Vipers opened the scoring in the first after Smith singled, scoring one run.
Vipers added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Shaftits committed an error, and Bruntz singled, each scoring one run.
Mike Wilson earned the win for Vipers. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking none. Dom Garlick took the loss for Shaftits. The hurler went five innings, surrendering 17 runs (11 earned) on 15 hits, striking out four and walking seven.
Vipers tallied 15 hits in the game. Thomas Jeffries, Nolan Adamski, Booth, and Smith each collected two hits for Vipers. Matheny paced Vipers with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Vipers were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. J.P Clune made the most plays with six.
Ben Buhler went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Shaftits in hits.
Next up for Vipers is a game against Pikes Peak WARJACKS on Saturday.
